I am me.
But, who are you? And what is your relationship like with yourself? Do you love yourself? Are you your own best friend? Or are you super hard and critical on yourself?
If you’re anything like me, you have a natural tendency to judge yourself more than others. You might even rate your mood against others — or against your absolute best mood — to determine how you ‘should’ feel; this leads to a feeling of disappointment and pressure to be at your best all the time. It’s ‘not’ a good feeling.
For the next 2 minutes, I’d like you to please do the following:
- Make a list of your top 3 talents or abilities.
- Make a list of your 3 ‘worst’ personality traits or qualities.
- Acknowledge yourself for your natural abilities, talents, and hard-earned skills.
- Forgive yourself for your ‘worst’ and fall back in love with the person inside you.
If all it takes to forgive yourself of your worst qualities is ‘thinking’ about them and making a choice, I don’t know about you, but I’m inspired. To me, this is a chance to love that which we feel is unloveable. This is a chance to understand we are human, lower our expectations on ourselves and others, and further enjoy our lives. You and I, we have the opportunity to be grateful for who we are, continually readjust our thoughts and beliefs about our identity, and shift our lives to be more awesome than we ever considered.
You and I, we are a team. And, in order to be my teammate today, it’s important you take responsibility for yourself. The first step is to figure out what you do — and don’t — love about yourself and adjust your life accordingly. Some traits you’ll change, and other behaviors or personality traits you’ll learn to love.
I look forward to hearing from you on the other side. Personally, the next few months of my life are dedicated to my relationship with me. I hope you’ll join me and be my teammate.
Today’s thought exercise:
When’s the last time you took the time to fall in love with yourself? Might you consider setting aside a few months of self-interest and self-love, to nurture who you are and better understand yourself at this phase of life? Does it make sense you’ll be more patient and loving to all those around?
Sent to you with love, honor, and in service,
