Underneath it all, dominance is neither ‘good’ nor ‘bad’; it just is. If you exert effort to control another person, animal, plant, or life situation, that’s just something you wish to do with your life. You’re on a trajectory to learn control is an illusion, and then move onto a new life lesson when you’re done with this one. The more you resist, the more opportunities to control and lose control you’ll find.
At an international level, it’s no different. We believe there’s a such thing as a superpower, and if it swings hard enough, other countries will likely respond out of fear; at least for now. They may cower, hide, or revolt. And if they do revolt and a war breaks out, the more powerful country wins… for now.
But, again, the lesson for a country is that control is an illusion. In time, someone will be plotting to attack a different way, seek revenge, or threaten power. All the while, the superpower will know and live in a state of fear or readiness to defend.
Throughout history, we have seen example after example of countries, rulers, and dictators taking power and attempting to control the world. In each example, we see a rising and falling of power. Along the way, there is a period of peace — kind of like a bell curve — for most superpowers. The majority of the time is either rising or falling, which is war either way.
If we spin this another way, attempting to control means you’ll exist more than 2/3rds of the time in a state of frustration, internal conflict, and fear; if you’re successful.
Now, for when others attempt to control you: grow and evolve.
You see, if others are attempting to hold you down in life, you have a choice. You can recognize this pattern, step back, and get creative. Or, you can admit defeat, pout, and feel sad. Of course, I recommend you step up and use your mind to overcome any obstacle, first through feeling it’s resolved and then by taking action.
Any attempt to dominate you — albeit growing up as a child, adolescent, or even now — is an opportunity for you to grow. Instead of feeling controlled by someone else, think of new and innovative ways to see your life differently. Consider the lessons you’re learning, how they may have a meaningful impact in another aspect of your life, and then guide yourself into a new life situation that is better, happier, and healthier.
